Because I like hearing myself type

As I sat on my throne last night I noticed a copy of some Women's decorating/cooking/be like Martha Stewart type magazine on the floor. It seemed as if it was going to be a while so I picked it up and began to flip through the pages. Yes there were plenty of articles about vacation spots and recipes and decorating ideas but that is not what I noticed. What I noticed was that every other product had an attractive women standing near the forefront of the ad. Her mere presence in this magazine targeted to women is not what caught my eye. It was the look on her face. They all had this sort of not smiling not frowning "Deer in the headlights look". I thought to myself, "What exactly are the advertisers trying to accomplish with the picture". If I saw a person looking like that in real life I would either call an ambulance for them or invite them to sit down and get a grip. I think it was a bad attempt at serious business professional/sexy minx. The two don't really mix unless your on a game show like "The Apprentice". Beware! If any of the rest of you out there in blog world notice this phenomenon please let me know.

Popular Science | Transparent Duct Tape: Improving a Classic?: "3M's clear duct tape takes on the gray standard.
by Ed FinnMay 2004
For purists, duct tape will always be gray, ugly and indestructible. For the rest of us, 3M has developed a colorless version of the almighty adhesive. Over the last year, the company has quietly introduced 'clear' duct tape that works just like the old stuff. The new tape has a 'scrim' of white embedded fibers, so it tears crossways and lengthwise, just like regular duct tape. And while it's not exactly invisible, it is inconspicuous for minor repairs. According to 3M, the hard part was developing a see-through adhesive: most tapes use natural rubber, which isn't transparent. However you feel about duct tape coloration, the clear stuff will stick around--it's six times as durable as your old gray roll."

Ok...I know that some of you out there (myself included) think that the person who invented duct tape should be given a medal or possible a Nobel prize. As highly as I regard the person who created duct tape, the person who created this is a frickin' genius. Sign me ups for the subscription service to this stuff.

I had a good lunch with a friend today. It is really nice to have good conversation with someone who is further down the path of life. As I type and listen to the radio I find that it is hard to concentrate. Ahh I have to stop.

Driving into work this morning I listened to an interesting little show in which callers would ring in and quiz a weatherman. While the concept is interesting the meteorlogical fellow was hedging his bets rather substantially. He said that each day was going to be sunny with a chance of rain, Almost without exception. I stomached it as interesting for about 5 minutes and then had to turn it off.
Ideas for a poem from last night's event.
Sunbaked faces, taught backs, and smokey clothes.
bright flaggish ensignias pressed with the Nascar trademark.
Solemn faces and awkward hugs. Clean, unironed out of fashion clothes that appear tailored for someone else in another decade
Kind smiling women who wear floral scented perfumes and tall uncomfortable shoes, because if something is serious your shoes should be tall and uncomfortable. This is serious.
authenticate people with blank expressions, then grimaces of emotion. Their attempts to hide the pain doesn't make them any less real.

As I was driving to work this morning I heard an interesting radio piece in which the speaker used the term "public policy". This is an interesting term to me, especially in that I'm not sure that he means. Typically one thinks of public policy as a formal written document that states: If party x does action y we will respond with z. Or more generally I think of it as a statement published by a publicly know nonpersonal entity which states: About subject x we believe y.
Who gets to decide these things? Do we elect people to make public policy. Why can't I make public policy?
Let it be known that on this 6th day of May 2004 I recommend that all four way stops be converted into intersections with either traffic lights or one direction of cross traffic that is not required to stop.
--I personally believe that the majority of "road rage" in the U.S. is caused by the improper use of the "4-way or all way stop. Nobody really argues with a traffic light, and if you don't yeild properly at a 2-way stop where cross traffic does not stop you get instant natural justice. (Hopefully thought the poor soul you pulled out in front of won't be affected by your mistake.)
After reading what I just typed I think its pretty clear why I don't get to make public policy.
